The end of SHA-1 SSL certificates and associated Cipher suites is quickly approaching. An upgrade to SHA-2 SSL certificates and Ciphers before June 1, 2018 is necessary to maintain proper security. Failure to upgrade to SHA-2 SSL certificates and Ciphers in a timely manner will result in the inability to process payments.
Sporadic one day shut downs will occur between now and final shut down in June. To avoid being impacted by the shut downs you will need to correct the issue.
New EMV mandates have also been released and require terminal and POS updates. The required EMV updates must be completed by June 1, 2018 as well to avoid being considered out of compliance in accordance with Card Brand and EMVco Standards.
Next steps you will need to take for updates:
Most POS terminals or web-based applications can be updated by simply updating or downloading new software. Contact your software provider as soon as possible to ensure that your POS or application accepts SHA-2 certificates and is updated with the latest CAPK methodology.
